Elio Martinelli was an Italian lighting designer, and founder of Martinelli Luce. His Biconica lamp features a thin hourglass shape meant to give the appearance of a sculptural object when turned off. It was used in the Voyager episode, “In the Flesh,” in the apartment of “Valery Archer” on the Species 8472 simulation of Earth.
