Taccia Lamp by Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Flos
Designed 1962
In production through Flos
Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni were Italian industrial designers and brothers, whose Taccia lamp remains among their most celebrated works. Originally conceived of in 1958, it entered production through Flos in 1962. The Taccia’s base is evocative of a radiator grill, to reflect one of the design’s intended functions of heat dispersal in a time before LED lightbulbs.
Several Taccia lamps appear in the Strange New Worlds episode, “A Space Adventure Hour,” in La’an Noonien-Singh’s holodeck recreation of a 1960’s Hollywood mansion.
