Dualit is a British home goods manufacturer, best known for their range of heavy-duty toasters. The angular casting of the toaster used in Star Trek dates it as having been produced in the 1980’s or 1990’s, before the company adopted the rounded look now associated with Dualit toasters. Star Trek + Design recently spoke with a representative at Dualit, who offered a fun bit of trivia: “If I remember rightly, in the movie the toast pops up on its own. The design of this toaster however was not an auto pop up but had a manually operated ejector lever on the front (which is just out of shot). I can only assume that Scotty upgraded the toaster and installed an auto pop up for his Captain at some point.” The Dualit 3 Bread Classic was used in Star Trek: Generations, in Captain Kirk’s cabin in the Nexus.
