Argyle Chair by Charles Rennie Mackintosh

Designed 1897
No longer in production

Charles Rennie Mackintosh was a Scottish architect and designer, best known for his influence on the Art Nouveau movement. His Argyle Chair was one of his first commissions, created for the Argyle Street Teahouse in Glasgow. The unusual height of the chairs offers a more intimate dining setting, as they create the illusion of a wall around the diners. The Argyle Chair appears in several Star Trek series, always in alien settings, such as Ventax II in The Next Generation, on Bajor in Deep Space Nine, and on Tarquin’s planet in Enterprise. Most recently, it was used on Strange New Worlds, in Spock and T’Pring’s room on Vulcan.
