Michele de Lucchi is a prolific Italian industrial designer, best known for his involvement with the Memphis Group. The First Chair is de Lucchi’s most famous work. The design is reminiscent of orbiting planets, which makes sense in the context of Star Trek. It was used in The Next Generation episode, “Imaginary Friend,” in the Enterprise-D’s classroom.
