Aino Aalto was a Finnish architect and industrial designer, and cofounder of the Artek furniture company. Her ribbed glass tableware set, originally known as Bölgeblick, was inspired by rippling water.
In The Next Generation, these plates were sometimes paired with Anchor Hocking’s Park Avenue glasses, likely due to the similarly ribbed design. They were also used in several episodes on Voyager.
