Tea Infuser and Stand by Josef Knau and Otto Rittweger for the Bauhaus Metallwerkstatt

Josef Knau and Otto Rittweger were German industrial designers and members of the Bauhaus School. Little information is available about Rittweger, but Knau was also an acclaimed silversmith and anti-fascist resistance fighter during WWII. Their tea infuser was originally designed for the Bauhaus Metallwerkstatt, but was reproduced by Alessi in 1995. It was used as set dressing for Seven of Nine’s holographic quarters in the Voyager episode, “Human Error,” and, more prominently, as a salt-and-pepper shaker set in Captain Archer’s dining room in Enterprise.
