James Pratt Winston was a mid century consumer electronics designer and an owner of the Weltron electronics retailer. The Model 2001 was his, and Weltron’s, best known product. It was used as set dressing for Dr. Bashir’s fictional holosuite apartment in the DS9 episode, “Our Man Bashir.” This is a bit of an inaccuracy on the part of the holonovel designer, since the program was meant to take place in 1964, though the Model 2001 was not actually released until 1970.
