Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was an eminent architect, pioneer of modernism, and the last director of the Bauhaus School. His MR chair was designed for the Stuttgart Weissenholf estate, a Werkbund exhibit to showcase modernist architecture and design. MR chairs were used in the Voyager two-part episode, “Future’s End,” in the the office of Henry Starling.
