Pierre Paulin was a French industrial designer, best known for his futuristic chairs for Artifort. Several Pierre Paulin chairs were used in Star Trek, most of them in The Next Generation. The Mushroom Chair (F60) is a significant piece of design history in that it broke from conventional methods of upholstery. Rather than being individual pieces of fabric nailed to a chair’s frame, the it utilizes a single piece of elastic fabric stretched around the entire chair. It was used in The Next Generation as furnishing for several Enterprise-D crew and guest quarters.
