Star Trek Chair by Roberto Lazzeroni for Ceccotti

Designed 1994
No longer in production

Roberto Lazzeroni is an Italian industrial designer and founder of Lazzeroni Studio. According to the Ceccotti website, “The story of these pieces actually starts with Franco Albini's ‘Tre Pezzi’ armchair and reflects a play of cross-references. Indeed, Star Trek represents a coming together of Italian and Scandinavian design. Its name was coined by an associate of Lazzeroni's studio and reflects the humour of the designer, who wanted to reinvent Albini's design.” If we can take this chair’s name to be understood as a humorous homage to The Original Series’ Scandinavian-inspired modernism and The Next Generation’s prolific use of Italian design, the Voyager production designers made a very meta joke when they chose it as set dressing for Tom Paris and B’Elanna Torres’ quarters.
