Maurice Burke was a mid century industrial designer, best known for his work for Arkana. The Burke 115 Chair and 116 Armchair are arguably the most iconic pieces of furniture of any Star Trek series. Their design is sometimes misattributed to Eero Saarinen, whose tulip chairs served as Burke’s inspiration. Both the 115 and 116 chairs were modified by Star Trek set designers, who added the black headrest and beveled back details. The Tulip 116 appears less frequently in TOS than the 115, and only once in The Next Generation.
