In exciting news, I was recently interviewed by Rocky of Cocaine Decor! We discussed utopia/dystopia in science fiction and reality, interior design in the time of quarantine, and, of course, the use of designer furniture in Star Trek. The full interview is available on the Cocaine Decor patreon!
I’ve also been looking through the objects identified by Dan Chavkin and Brian McGuire in Star Trek: Designing the Final Frontier, and have added several new pages featuring objects from The Original Series (with permission from Dan Chavkin). If you haven’t purchased the book yet, I highly recommend it! It’s a wealth of information about Star Trek’s use of mid century modernism, brutalism, and space age design.
New pages from Designing the Final Frontier:
I’ve also added two new pages in Tableware, for objects originally identified by Barb at Quark’s Qantina:
Jacob E. Bang’s Kluk Kluk Decanter for Holmegaard (used in The Original Series)
Kati Tuominen-Niittylä’s Storybirds Pitchers (used in Voyager)
And, lastly, one table that was actually identified by me. Unfortunately, it’s not super visible in the screencap, but my attribution is based upon a listing from the Star Trek Auction Listings Archive:
Stefano Giovannoni’s Bombo Bistro Table (used in Enterprise)

I’ve added new pages for three recently identified objects:
Silvia Capponi and In Suk Il’s Gilda Lamp (used in Voyager)
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s Brno Chair (used in Voyager)
Paolo Parigi’s Canasta Swivel Chair (used in Deep Space Nine)

I’ve added a new page for Hivo Van Teal’s Perfume Bottle Sculpture (used in Voyager).
And added a new screencap to the Lucite Sculpture by Hivo Van Teal page (to reflect it’s use in Voyager).

It’s been a busy few weeks, but I’ve finally gotten around to adding some new pages! A friend of mine remarked that he thinks I’ll eventually have a page for every Philippe Starck chair designed between 1980 and 2000, and at this rate he might be right.
Philippe Starck’s Olly Tango Chair (used in Voyager)
Philippe Starck’s Sarapis Stools (used in Voyager)
Christian Daninos’s Bubble Chair (used in Enterprise)
Bruce Burdick’s Burdick Group Table (used in Voyager)
IKEA’s STRATEG Flatware (used in Deep Space Nine)
I’ve also added new screencaps to the following pages:
Willow Chair designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh (to reflect its use in ENT)
Frenesí Stool designed by Ramon Benedito for Transatlàntic (to reflect its use in TNG)
And moved the page for the Doris Vanity designed by R & Y Augousti to the Tables section, under Desks. It seemed to make more sense there than in Other, where it previously was.

It’s been a while since my last update! The big news this week was that I received Dan Chavkin and Brian McGuire’s new book, Star Trek: Designing the Final Frontier, which I preordered. I wasn’t sure how much information would be in it that I wasn’t already aware of, but I was really pleasantly surprised to find thoughtfully written articles about dozens of items used in The Original Series whose makers were unknown to me. I’d recommend it to anyone interested in TOS set design.
Today, I added a new page for Peter Hamburger’s Hanging Light Structure, which Jörg Hillebrand from Ex Astris Scientia made me aware of.
And added two new screencaps to the Willow Chair designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh page to reflect its use in the TNG episode, “The Hunted,” and the ENT episode, “Exile.” The TNG screencap is also from Jörg.
